Een half jaar na de laatste opnames, is 7 juni 2012 de film ‘Soegija’ in Indonesië in première gegaan. De eerste recensies zijn heel positief, maar nog belangrijker; de zalen zitten overvol! Ik krijg berichten uit Indonesië dat als je nu naar de bioscoop gaat voor een kaartje, het zeker drie dagen duurt voordat je de film kunt zien daar alles steeds is uitverkocht.
De eerste dag werden al 100.000 bioscoopkaartjes verkocht. Het blijkt dat hele gezinnen de film bezoeken; de ouderen zien in de film een deel van hun verleden terug en zij nemen de jongere generatie mee op sleeptouw; ‘kijk hoe we onafhankelijk zijn geworden’ is hun boodschap ‘en waarom men de keuzes maakte die men moest maken, door de verschillen in opvoeding en achtergrond. Of je nou Indonesiër, Nederlander of Japanner bent’.

Six months after the last shootings, the film ‘Soegija’ premiered in Indonesia at June 7, 2012 . The first reviews are very positive, but more importantly, the cimemas are crowded! I get reports from Indonesia that if you’re going to the cinema for a ticket, it takes about three days before you can see the movie, because everything is always sold out..
The first day, 100.000 cinema tickets were sold. It appears that whole families are visiting the film, the elderly people see in the story a part of their past and they take the younger generation with them, ‘Look how we became independent’ is their message, “and you can see why the people made the choices they made because of the differences in background and culture. Whether you’re Indonesian, Dutch or Japanese.”
